Neck Liposuction – Surgery Overview :

After you are fully prepped and made comfortable, Dr. Choe will make small incisions under the chin and just under the earlobes (so small that they may require 1-2 stitches). He will remove the excess fat by gently suctioning it out through a small catheter called a cannula. The incisions are then closed with sutures and a “chin strap” pressure dressing is applied - which helps to minimize swelling. The chin dressing will remain on for 24 hours following your surgery -then you will return to our office for a post surgical check and dressing change. Please keep your dressing dry. Any discomfort you may experience will be managed by prescription pain medication.

Preparing for your Neck Liposuction Surgery:

• Avoid taking aspirin, products that contain aspirin, ibuprofen or herbal medicines for 2 weeks prior to your surgery.
• Do not use nicotine or nicotine products for 4 weeks prior to your surgery.
• Do not use alcohol for 1 week prior to your surgery.
• Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before your surgery.
• You must have a responsible adult drive you to your surgery and stay with you 24 hours after surgery.
• You must avoid bending, lifting, straining and other strenuous activities for at least one week following your surgery.
• You will need to sleep on 2-3 pillows for 2-3 weeks after your neck liposuction surgery.

Neck Liposuction Surgery – Frequently Asked Questions:

Will Neck Liposuction drastically change what I look like? No. Our patients tell us they get remarks like “Gee you look great" or, “did you change your hairstyle,” or “Have you been on vacation?” Neck Liposuction does not alter your looks so that you don’t look like you – rather – it enhances your overall appearance.

Will I experience much pain or discomfort? No. There is very little discomfort associated with Neck Liposuction. You will have swelling, bruising, some numbness and a “pulling sensation.” These are normal, are managed with pain medication and diminish daily. All symptoms are totally gone within a few weeks.

What anesthetic will Dr. Choe use for my surgery? We normally use an IV sedation and local anesthetic – so you are asleep during your surgery – do not hear or feel anything and are totally comfortable.

How long should I plan to take off from work? You should be presentable to return to work within 3-4 days.

Will my incisions be visible? No. Dr. Choe will make the incisions very inconspicuous. They are made in “natural crease lines” so they are barely visible and heal very well. They are not noticeable at all after a few weeks.

What other procedures can I have at the same time as my Neck Liposuction? Many of our patients choose to have a necklift, facelift and/or chin augmentation at the same time. This is done very frequently – and offers the “optimum” results for a “renewed"– more youthful look.

How long before I will look normal again? Healing varies with each patient, but most of our patients are getting back to normal within 2 –3 weeks and look great within 6 weeks. Within 6 months – your recovery is nearly complete. It takes a few months for the body to totally heal and for expressions to become “natural.”
