What do Khloe Kardashian and Lisa Kudrow have in common? Answer:  A positive attitude toward rhinoplasty.

Not many people consider the Kardashian women of reality TV fame to be good role models for various personal reasons, but Khloe Kardashian may have it right when it comes to plastic surgery. The 29-year-old recently told Cosmopolitan UK magazine that if she ever does have plastic surgery it would be because she wanted to and not because of pressure, which is exactly how it should be!

Cosmopolitan UK revealed that Khloe’s mother Kris Jenner once said to a friend that her daughter, who was 9 years old at the time, should have a nose job. She reportedly has also been told this since by makeup artists. To these remarks Khloe responds, “…I’ve never resorted to surgery. I’m not against it- one day I probably will, but it would be on my terms.”

These are precisely the words plastic surgeons listen for when determining if the person before them in a consultation is a good candidate for plastic surgery or not. First and foremost, cosmetic surgeons are medical professionals who take both the physical and emotional health of their patients very seriously. In order to be an ideal candidate, patients should be interested in surgery based on their own desires, not because of comments others have made. The choice is a highly personal one that should be made to increase your own self-confidence and happiness about the way you look.

This was the case for Friends star Lisa Kudrow, who underwent rhinoplasty surgery when she was 16 and still feels very pleased with her decision now at age 50. Kudrow was very unhappy with the way she looked and had negative feelings about her nose in particular. In high school she had nasal reshaping before entering a new school. The fresh start increased her self-esteem and gave her the confidence to eventually have a career in front of the camera.

When Rhinoplasty is Not Right

Patients who do not undergo rhinoplasty for the right reasons may find they are not happy with the results. Even after revision procedures, the outcome can still be unsatisfying if the choice was not made with careful consideration of the facial anatomy and emotions. Instead of changing the way you feel for the better, you could end up resenting your decision and the person who encouraged you to make it.

There are also patients who may undergo rhinoplasty of their own accord, but who are in the pursuit of an unattainable perfection. Unfortunately, this has become a problem for many young girls who value the images media presents too highly. As with everything in life, there is no such thing as the perfect nose. Perfection is all in individual perception. Using the face as an experiment to create ultimate beauty is a slippery slope that can lead to serious health problems.

To obtain the best results possible, select a plastic surgeon with an artistic eye, extensive skill, and who has his patient’s best interest at heart. A compassionate physician will listen intently to your concerns and provide feedback that will guide you in determining if rhinoplasty is right for you. If it is, you can expect to have a nose you can be proud to display indefinitely.
