Chin Augmentation in Virginia Beach

It’s all about balance! If the chin is out of balance with the face and neck – overall facial symmetry may be distorted. Men and women alike are coming to The Choe Center in Virginia Beach for chin augmentation (also known as chin implant surgery) to achieve a more attractive, and more balanced, look that will match the youthfulness they feel inside.

The Chin Augmentation procedure

Many times patients will come in to discuss Rhinoplasty surgery, and end up choosing to have a Chin Augmentation as well. This helps to achieve overall balance and facial harmony. Reshaping a nose – making it smaller, reducing the hump, and rotating the tip up – is all about proportion, and the nose only appears that much better when the chin is brought into balance. Leaving the chin recessed can make the nose still appear too large.

Additionally, as we age, we can lose definition in the lower face and neck area. A small chin implant can be a great supplement to a facelift or necklift surgery, because skin has sagged over time. Neck liposuction and muscle tightening (platysmaplasty) are also used to make a good facelift great!

Made using a biocompatible material like silicone, chin implants are solid, small devices that are molded to fit around your chin bone. They vary in contour and size. With our guidance, you will be able to select an implant that helps you get the desired enhancement and natural-looking results. Once they are inserted, they will feel quite similar to your natural chin bone. Getting your chin augmentation procedure at a reputed center like ours will ensure that it is almost impossible to tell whether you have had the chin augmentation surgery or not.

Recovery

In most cases, there is relatively little downtime. You will be able to return to work and resume your daily activities within a week after the procedure. There is minimal discomfort that can be controlled easily using cold compresses and pain medication. For at least one to two weeks after the procedure, you will have to keep your head elevated and sleep face-up. This will protect your incisions and control post-op swelling. Also, you might be required to consume an only-liquid diet for a couple of days after the procedure. You can resume strenuous activity within three to four weeks. It is crucial that you follow the instructions given to you by Dr. Kyle Choe to ensure that you heal properly and you have the best results.

Frequently asked questions about Chin Augmentation

Chin implants are commonly done for balance – whether to achieve what was never their or restore what age has taken away.

The surgery usually lasts about a half hour. It will take longer if combining this with other restorative procedures.

Dr. Choe will use an IV solution sedation and a local anesthetic. You will be asleep and completely comfortable during your surgery.

There is some discomfort experienced with any procedure – any discomfort you experience can be managed with pain medication. The discomfort is usually minimal, diminishes each day following your surgery, and is easily managed with Extra Strength Tylenol within 2-3 days.

While individual needs may vary, and the most important thing is that you come in for a personal consultation with Dr. Choe, our fees range from $3000 to $4,500 (including anesthesia) typically.

Our patients normally return to work within 1 week following their chin implant surgery. If you are combining this with other restorative procedures for the most effective outcome – then plan on 1-3 weeks.

No. Using only the latest state-of-the-art instruments and procedures, Dr. Choe is able to make very small incisions just under the chin -these heal very well and become unnoticeable within a few short weeks.

There will be swelling and bruising, however, Dr. Choe will have you take Vitamin C and Arnica to minimize this and to help speed healing and recovery. Arnica is a natural herb that helps to prevent bruising. Vitamin C helps the body heal and recover quicker.

You may eat as soon as you feel it’s comfortable for you to do so. A dull ache is what our patients report to us. This is managed very well with oral pain medication for the first 2-3 days then we switch you to Extra Strength Tylenol.

You will need to sleep with your head elevated, especially on the first night. Afterwards, you should try to sleep with your head elevated for at least 1 week. The pain medications will help keep you comfortable, and the dressings will help keep the chin implant in place while applying pressure to help minimize swelling.

You need to stay in bed for the first day (with your head elevated) and get plenty of rest to allow the healing process to begin. You must avoid all strenuous activities – including bending, lifting, stretching or straining until Dr. Choe tells you otherwise.

In about two weeks you should start looking normal again as swelling diminishes. Complete healing will take place gradually over a few months.
