There’s a lot to focus on when planning a wedding. You need to schedule time to find the perfect gown, choose the right venue and pick the perfect cake and catering company. Along with all the little details, such as making sure your squabbling aunts don’t sit near each other at the reception, you want to make sure you look as full of life and lovely as possible on your special day.

If you plan on having any beauty treatments or other procedures performed to help you look your best on the big day, it’s important to schedule them in advance and to get the timing right. It can take some time before the results of some procedures become visible, while other treatments can leave your skin looking a little raw before it looks better.

Surgical procedures require the most advanced preparation, as they take the longest from which to recover. If you’re planning on getting married next summer and want to undergo rhinoplasty in preparation for the wedding, it’s a good idea to book that surgery now or at least discuss your options with a plastic surgeon. If your wedding is at the end of summer or in the early fall, here are a few procedures you should start thinking about now.

Botox Injections

Botox Cosmetic before your wedding day can give you a smoother looking face. The injections help reduce the look of frown lines and crow’s feet, so that you look more refreshed on your special day. It does take about five days for the results from a Botox injection to be visible, so it’s definitely not a treatment to leave until the last minute.

Schedule your treatment a month or two before your wedding, so that you get a good idea of what the results will look like. If you need a touch-up before you walk down the aisle, scheduling the first treatment at least a month out will give you time to have a second injection if needed.

To avoid any complications from the treatment, follow your surgeon’s advice carefully. It’s usually a good idea to take it as easy as possible for at least a few hours after the injection. If you put your head down or lean forward, the toxin can move to another area of your face, causing complications.

Other Injectables

Botox will take care of dynamic lines, or wrinkles that form thanks to muscle movements. For other lines and wrinkles on your face, such as smile lines by the nose or lines on your chin, you’ll want to choose a dermal filler. Some fillers, such as Juvederm, can also be used in the lips to give you a fuller mouth.

Although the recovery time is short after a dermal filler treatment, you want to give yourself a cushion of time before your wedding, in case there is any swelling or redness. A week before the wedding might be cutting it too close. Try scheduling the treatment a minimum of two weeks, if not a full month, before your wedding. The results from fillers typically last at least six months, so you won’t have to worry about the effects wearing off before you say “I do.”

Skincare Treatments

While injections will reduce the look of wrinkles, they won’t improve your skin’s texture or reduce any pigmentation problems. To give your skin that special bridal glow, you might consider laser skin resurfacing or a microdermabrasion treatment. The treatment you choose depends on your age and the condition your skin is in.

A very superficial, non-invasive procedure such as dermaplaning might be appropriate if you have minor skin care concerns. The treatment involves using a scalpel to remove the very top layer of skin from your face. Unless it’s performed very frequently, the treatment typically doesn’t cause redness or other issues. Schedule your treatment about two weeks before your wedding.

Laser skin resurfacing can also improve the look of your skin, by reducing pigmentation and the look of fine lines. Since the treatment can have longer lasting side effects, such as redness, it’s best to give your skin plenty of time to heal afterwards. It’s recommended that you have the treatment done a few months before your wedding.
