A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, reduces signs of aging on the face by removing excess tissue, tightening loose facial skin, and repositioning underlying structures. Our team offers different facelifts, including:
- Traditional facelift
- Mini facelift
- Deep plane facelift
Who Is a Good Candidate for Facelift Surgery?
The procedure is recommended for individuals who want to correct signs of aging that non-surgical treatments can no longer improve. Ideal candidates should have:
- Healthy skin: Good skin quality ensures the face responds well to surgery. This allows you to achieve more natural and lasting results.
- Good Health: Candidates should not have serious medical conditions that could interfere with recovery.
- Non-smoker or willing to quit: Smoking slows recovery and increases the risk of complications. You should be willing to stop before and after surgery.
- Realistic expectations: A facelift enhances your appearance, but it won’t stop the aging process.
- Stable weight: You should be at or near your ideal weight before surgery. Significant weight changes after surgery can alter your facelift results.

What Happens During a Facelift?
The process usually begins with anesthesia, either general anesthesia or IV sedation, to ensure comfort throughout surgery.
Dr. Choe will make incisions around the ears and along the hairline to access the underlying structures. Thereafter, excess skin is trimmed, fat may be redistributed or removed to improve facial balance, and the remaining skin is gently redraped.
Once the adjustments are complete, the incisions are closed with fine sutures, and bandages may be applied to support healing.
What Is Facelift Recovery Like?
Immediately after surgery, you may notice swelling, bruising, and tightness in the face and neck. You will need pain medications to minimize discomfort. Elevating your head will reduce swelling.
Stitches are often removed within a week, and many patients feel comfortable resuming light daily activities after 10 to 14 days. You should, however, avoid strenuous exercises until after the third or fourth week.
Final results will become more visible after the sixth month.
