Facial cosmetic surgery can leave some pretty noticeable effects in the form of scarring, bruising, and excessive swelling around incision points. Because nobody in the middle of recovery from rhinoplasty or a facelift wants to look like they’ve just stepped out of the boxing ring, there are many post-surgery makeup products designed with you in mind. Depending on the surgical procedure you’ve had done, your skin texture and facial characteristics, it’s important to know which product is safest and gives the best results.
Whenever appropriate, use a water-based cosmetic that easily washes off with water and causes the least irritation. Some people are allergic to certain concealers or foundation makeup and should opt instead for hypoallergenic makeup to avoid complications or adverse reactions. With facial cosmetic surgery such as a facelift, there will be scarring. So it’s necessary to avoid any makeup that contains alcohol to avoid painful irritation or cosmetics that highlight scarring and swollen areas.
Surgical procedures like rhinoplasty and eyelid lifts can leave behind unsightly bruising and black eyes during the recovery period. Use a concealer to mask visible bruising or black eyes. Avoid black or brown makeup colors which can accentuate bruising. It’s also a good idea to stay away from metallic or iridescent eye shadow which can draw attention to open pores, scars, or various skin flaws. In most cases use makeup that is one shade lighter than the area on which it is to be applied is best. Also, a green skin toner can help to balance excessive redness.
With facelifts or rhinoplasty, it’s best to use camouflage makeup until the surgical sites have sufficiently healed. Some of the more popular products include Dermablend Professional, Cover Creme SPF30, Quick Fix Concealer SPF 30, Lycogel Camouflage, Correcteur Visage Concealer and Microskin. These can hide almost any skin condition. You can ask your cosmetic surgeon about the best and safest makeup product lines and how to apply post-surgery makeup. As a general rule, wait at least one week after surgery before resuming your normal makeup routine.
